Ethereum upgrade breaks standard 21,000 gas rule for ETH transfers
Ethereum's upcoming upgrade (Glamsterdam or Hegotá) will change the gas model so that sending ether to a newly created address costs more than sending to an existing address, breaking the long-standing flat 21,000 gas rule that wallet software has relied on for years.
Why it matters for the crypto market
Wallet developers and infrastructure providers will need to update their code before the upgrade reaches mainnet, creating a period of incompatibility risk across tools and applications that assume fixed gas fees.
