OCC banking regulator promises final stablecoin rules by November
The US Office of the Comptroller of the Currency stated it will release final rules implementing the GENIUS Act (state-chartered national bank stablecoin framework) by November, ahead of the law's January 2027 effective date. The regulator released a 376-page proposal in February for public comment.
Why it matters for the crypto market
Final OCC rules on bank-issued stablecoins will establish the regulatory pathway for national banks to issue and settle stablecoins, a key infrastructure permission for institutional-grade digital dollar systems.
