SEC proposes crypto offering exemptions and safe harbor for token projects
The Securities and Exchange Commission proposed Regulation Crypto Assets, which aims to bring greater clarity to when crypto assets fall within the federal securities laws, reduce incentives for issuers to create and operate offshore, and expand investment opportunities for U.S. investors with stronger, more consistent protections. The proposed regulation would create two exemptions for crypto-related offerings and introduce targeted disclosure and reporting regimes.
Why it matters for the crypto market
The SEC's first major crypto rulemaking in years provides legal pathways for token fundraising and projects to decentralize, shifting from enforcement-first posture to rules-based framework.
