US Treasury sanctions two Iran-linked crypto exchanges
The US Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) designated two crypto exchanges, Shelbit and Aban Tether, and an individual, alleging they facilitated money laundering of approximately $5 million in digital assets linked to Iran.
Why it matters for the crypto market
US sanctions on crypto platforms operating with Iran continue to narrow access and reinforce government enforcement of financial restrictions on sanctioned jurisdictions.
