EU bans Belarusian nationals from owning or running licensed crypto firms
From August 25, the European Union will prohibit Belarusian nationals and residents from owning, controlling, or managing any crypto exchange or other firm licensed under Europe's crypto rulebook. The move is part of a broader EU sanctions package targeting Russia and Belarus that also names 14 crypto companies and considers banning non-EU crypto service providers from the bloc entirely.
Why it matters for the crypto market
Expanding EU sanctions into crypto ownership and management sets a precedent for using financial regulation as a geopolitical tool, with potential ripple effects for crypto firms operating across borders.
