BlackRock, Coinbase, and Strategy pledge $15 million to protect Bitcoin against quantum computing threats
A consortium that includes BlackRock, Coinbase, and Strategy committed $15 million to fund work on making the Bitcoin network resistant to quantum computers, which are feared to eventually be powerful enough to break current cryptographic protections. The group said it will not seek any role in Bitcoin's governance or technical decision-making.
Why it matters for the crypto market
Quantum computing is considered a long-term threat to all current blockchain security, so coordinated industry funding for defenses signals that major institutional holders are taking the risk seriously.
