Japan regulator approves Ripple RLUSD stablecoin as payment instrument
Japan's Financial Services Agency cleared Ripple's RLUSD as a new type of electronic payment instrument under the Payment Services Act, allowing SBI VC Trade to offer the U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin to institutional and retail customers.
Why it matters for the crypto market
The approval marks Japan formally extending its regulated stablecoin framework to a foreign-issued token, signaling openness to dollar-denominated digital payment instruments under its payment services law.
